چکیده

The objective of this report is to present the results of the on-going research activity, carried out at the Mobilab research group at the University of Napoli, on evaluating the suitability of the recent OMG specification for pub/sub services, called Data Dissemination Service (DDS) [1], within the context of data dissemination for Large-scale Complex Critical Infrastructures (LCCI).

Access control in ultra-large-scale systems using a data-centric middleware

The primary characteristic of an Ultra-Large-Scale (ULS) system is ultra-large size on any related dimension. A ULS system is generally considered as a system-of-systems with heterogeneous nodes and autonomous domains. As the size of a system-of-systems grows, and interoperability demand between sub-systems is increased, achieving more scalable and dynamic access control system becomes an im...

Industrial Internet of Œings (IIoT) applications are mission-critical, which require a scalable data sharing and dissemination platform that supports quality of service (QoS) properties such as timeliness, resilience, and security. Although the Object Management Group (OMG)’s Data Distribution Service (DDS), which is a datacentric, peer-to-peer publish/subscribe standard supporting multiple QoS...

Design of a Scalable Reasoning Engine for Distributed, Real-Time and Embedded Systems

Effective and efficient knowledge dissemination and reasoning in distributed, real-time, and embedded (DRE) systems remains a hard problem due to the need for tight time constraints on evaluation of rules and scalability in dissemination of knowledge events. Limitations in satisfying the tight timing properties stem from the fact that most knowledge reasoning engines continue to be developed in...

Toward an Adaptive Data Distribution Service for Dynamic Large-Scale Network-Centric Operation and Warfare (NCOW) SystemsTo be sumitted to the 2008 Military Communications Conference

To achieve the goal of information dominance, the DoD has adopted the doctrine of net-centric operations and warfare (NCOW). The Global Information Grid (GIG), Future Combat System (FCS), C2 Constellation, and FORCEnet are examples of net-centric operations where multiple systems-of-systems integrate thousands of platforms, sensors, decision nodes, weapons, and warfighters through heterogeneous...

A Coordination and Discovery Service for QoS-enabled Data-Centric Publish/Subscribe in Wide Area Networks

A special class of Internet of Things called the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) operates in a large, distributed and dynamic environment comprising sensors all the way to large server clusters. A key requirement for IIoT is a scalable messaging service that supports multiple quality of service (QoS) properties, such as timeliness and resilience. Although existing pub/sub standards, such a...
